Who are you?
Hi, my name is Issy and I have lived in Geelong my whole life, 12 years to be exact. I am currently a year 7 student at Kardinia International College. I have always loved PE classes at school and have tried to keep active. I have always been very competitive and like a new challenge. When I am not doing CrossFit I’m playing hockey, netball or competing in rowing and athletics.
My dad (Andrew) got me into CrossFit about a year and a half ago, as he thought it would benefit me. Before CrossFit I tried lots of different sports, but I never really felt motivated to train and it would usually feel like a chore. When I started CrossFit I liked seeing my improvement and this motivated me to continue getting fitter and stronger. CrossFit has developed into a passion that no other sport has been able to do, and I am definitely grateful for what CrossFit has helped me with.
What is your favourite WOD?
My favourite WOD would probably have to be Cindy, but I love Cleans!
Who or What inspires you?
My dad and the people I am surrounded by at the gym inspire me the most. Everyone is so kind and motivational. Even when you’re in the middle of a workout and you have no energy left, the athletes and coaches know the right things to say to make you keep going.
Advice for newcomers?
- Make sure you have good technique before you load on weights
- Make sure you warm up and cool down (you don’t want to hurt yourself)
- Show up! (you will regret it if you don’t)
